The Butchermobile rides again... and this time, everybody is DOOMED!

The band with the bad case of brain rot is back! BLOOD FREAK's 3rd album is without a doubt their best yet, as they have refined their sound into the most perfect symbiosis of late 80's THRASH METAL, early 90's DEATH METAL, and late 80's GRINDCORE, with even hints at classic 80's HARDCORE. The album is simply a rollercoaster ride that doesn't give you a chance to breathe, with crunching metallic riffs, thundering double bass and precise blast beats, unbelievable shredding guitar solos, and a vocal performance that is loaded with variety and insanity! Dave Graham from LORD GORE and FRIGHTMARE shows up for some killer backing vocals and provides a fitting horror film-inspired synth intro in the classic early 80's style! Lyrically, the band once again shows their love for vintage and obscure exploitation films from the 70's and 80's, while tossing in their own "characters" and original tales of violence and over-the-top carnage. Underground splatter artist Putrid has drawn an amazing cover for this in stark BLACK AND WHITE and the inside booklet has tons more killer drawings to shock and amaze you!

So dim the lights, grab your favorite snack, and take a ride on the wild side with BLOOD FREAK as they GO FOR THE GROSSOUT and THRASH and GRIND your face off!

BLOOD FREAK is an underground death/grind/gore/thrash metal band from Portland, Oregon. Band influences include: Impetigo, Autopsy, Repulsion, Grave, Entombed(old), Metallica(old), Slayer(old), the Misfits(old), Black Sabbath, Dark Angel, Overkill, and many other great classic metal bands of the past.
The biggest influence of all, though, are cult and obscure horror/gore/cult-films from the 60's, 70's and 80's! Nothing beats a fun, cheesy drive-in movie made in 2 days in 1974, or an out of print VHS-era cheapo gore flick from 1983! The love for this stuff is obsessive and bordering on dangerous and scary at times. Everybody involved in the band suffers from an extreme bad case of brain rot and the demand for GORETITS is more than ever! Melt down horror DVD's....shoot it into our veins, and watch the MADNESS begin! More monsters, more freaks, more cheese, more movies!!! FUCK FASHION, WE WANT BLOOD!

BLOOD FREAK has 3 full-length albums out, all on horror/gore metal specialty label - Razorback Records. "Sleaze Merchants" came out in 2003 and "Live Fast, Die Young... And Leave A Flesh-Eating Corpse!" came out in 2006. The latest, "Multiplex Massacre", came out in 2007.

There will be many more to come after that as this band is dedicated and addicted to creating crushing horror/gore worshipping METAL and nothing else!! Expect only the finest gore from BLOOD FREAK and get ready for a roller-coaster ride of true horror metal insanity!

BLOOD FREAK "Live Fast, Die Young, And Leave a Flesh-Eating Corpse!" CD back in print! The band's 2nd album from 2006 on Razorback Records!

A bizarre world comes to life! The horrifying secrets of the BLOOD FREAK finally revealed at last!
The 2nd full-length horror & gore metal abomination, "LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG, AND LEAVE A FLESH-EATING CORPSE!". 21 shiver and shudder-tracks of psycho-delic death metal, grindcore, doom, and thrash that will unleash the monster in you all! Features a 16-page full color booklet and incredible cover artwork by the legendary Ed Repka (Megadeth, Massacre, Death, etc.). HEAR the deranged Turkey Monster run amok! FEEL the shock of Worm Face's army of creatures! LIVE the horror of the BUTCHERMOBILE as it speeds over your corpse! Your teeth will chatter and your skin will crawl! You'll be shocked to learn that such a band can exist! Fans of Autopsy, Grave, Repulsion, and cult 70's horror cinema must hear this!

*This is the quintessential Razorback album, the perfect hybrid of all the label's aspirations from old school grind/gore, thrash metal, death metal, doom to exploitation flicks & horror comics! (BRAINDEAD WEBZINE)

Blood Freak
"Multiplex Massacre" CD
Razorback Records 2007
Review by Necro-Tron, Teufelstomb.com

Jesus Christ, Blood Freak's last album was still warm in my cd player by the time this was announced. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant to see Maniac Neil rebound so quickly to make a new Blood Freak; could he repeat the same magic he pulled off on Live Fast, Die Young... And Leave a Flesh-Eating Corpse? No, he didn't repeat the same magic, he fucking topped it!

Multiplex Massacre continues in the same fast, lively melding of old school death metal and psychedelic riffing that made the previous album so intense, but there's something more here. It's not just the writing of this record. It's the lyrics, the atmosphere, the feel, and the groove of the record on top of the writing and riffs. Blood Freak now goes past just the classic death metal it so viciously slayed in the past, and it goes beyond the speedy 80's schlock of Frightmare. Hell, with the fury of songs like "Body by Death" and "Go for the Grossout" Blood Freak can now successfully out-Frightmare Frightmare themselves and still retain that signature Blood Freak feel! And "Lady Lunatic" is the best fucking death metal song I've heard this year, hands down: it possesses inventive song writing, varied structure, and is more entertaining than seeing 5 small Vietnamese boys duke it out with their own severed limbs in a war-torn crack house. By the middle point of the record, Blood Freak becomes such a force that it will be impossible to resist grunting along to Manic Neil's dual growl and guttural vocal delivery. Between the hilarious lyrics, the addictive hooks, and the hyper-energetic charge in the songs, Multiplex Massacre is easily Maniac's Neil's signature record.

Fuck, "Don't Metal with Satan" is practically the fucking anthem of Razorback Records itself. You ever hear people remark about that "early Earache sound?" They come in and remark how X label possessed a particular sound based on the bands coming through it. I've done it sometimes myself (though not particularly in reference to Earache). Well, if Razorback were to ever have a signature sound, Multiplex Massacre would be it. Not Frightmare, not Crypticus, not Gruesome Stuff Relish, and not Ghoul. There would only be Blood Freak and Multiplex Massacre. Maniac Neil has written his opus.

Gas up the Butchermobile, pick up Dr. Bitch, and make that call to Acid Dropping Satan because it's time again for Blood Freak to get behind the wheel and burn up the highway in search of fresh kill! Now that I've owned "Multiplex Massacre" for 3 months and I've had time for it to sink in, I'm going to get this out of the way right now and just say that you will not find a better album in 2007. This wins, and even though the year still has some months left, it won't make any difference whatsoever. Blood Freak has come a long way. In just a few short years the band has gone from clever practical joke to the flagship band of Razorback Records and with this latest offering, Neil Smith, the man behind the Turkey Monster has mowed down all competition undergound and above.

Last year when I reviewed "Live Fast, Die Young... A Leave a Flesh-Eating Corpse!" I praised its variety and wealth of musical influences. Upon hearing "Multiplex..." for the first time, I have to admit I was a bit dumbfounded. This is pure, stripped down, in your fucking face, and relentless. If "Live Fast..." was a joyride all over the map, then Blood Freak's latest offering is a mother fucking bullet-train to Hell. I initially lamented my beloved doom-laden passages taking even more of a back seat in favor of a more straight forward approach, however it didn't take long for this album to finally grab me by the throat. I'm convinced THIS is Blood Freak's best release to date.

Though it starts off with a synth driven '80s style slasher soundtrack piece, it's not long before "Cleavage Clever" sets things in motion and from there it's a killer half hour of Drive-In/Exploitation/'80s Horror worshipping death-trash replete with B-string rape, meat hook-laden melodic riffing, multi-layered razor sharp soloing and a vocal gang-war assault from all sides with assistance from Gurge of none other than Lord Gore! Yet again, Blood Freak epitomizes what is so great about underground metal. It's about horror and being heavy as fuck, but also being mindful to create songs worth remembering. Most underground bands today in their never-ending quest to out "brutal" the next forget that they need to write good songs, but what the fuck do I know? Blood Freak knows and they deliver every goddamn time.

Lyrically, "Multiplex Massacre" is once again jam-packed with talent from the likes of Billy Nocera, Sly the Goregnome, Jose Angeles, and Repulsive Patrick; a vertiable who's who of the Razorback Hive all contributing to the band's ever-growing canon of terror, sleaze, and horror-worship! It's great to see classic films such as "Rocktober Blood", "Killer Workout", and "Savage Streets" get their due as well as taking the time to further the adventures of the Blood Freak regulars like Acid Dropping Satan who once again gets his very own tune ("Don't Metal With Satan"), and just about everyone else in an orgy of nu-horror slaughtering madness featured in the track "Go For The Gross-Out".

In this age of easily obtainable MP3 files and the decline of the CD format, it makes me all fucking warm and fuzzy inside that the sick bastards at Razorback Records put forth a massive amount of care and effort into the packaging for their releases. "Multiplex Massacre" is no exception and my opinion, it's the best yet! Putrid's splatter-fuelled eye candy adorns almost every page of the booklet and the cover remains one of the best pieces of horror-art I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong, I love Ed Repka every bit as much as the next guy, but the cover art on "Multiplex..." simply crushes Repka's work from the previous album. Putrid's style is simply the best and I can't wait to see what else he shits out in the years to come!

This latest offering from Blood Freak proves yet again that Neil Smith is not only the best musician dwelling in the underground, but one of the most sincere. His prolific output is staggering and "Mutliplex Massacre" proves without a doubt that the man has sold his soul to horror. With a little help from his friends, he's cranked out the best goddamn album of 2007 and I can't wait to see where the Butchermobile takes us next.

Blood Freak
"Multiplex Massacre" CD
Razorback Records 2007
Review by Cepahlopod, Livingformetal.com

Gory horror and sickening metal—a match that was undoubtedly made in heaven (or hell, depending on your world view). West coast sickos Blood Freak are experts at combining the visual element of B-horror with the audio assault of thrashing deathgrind. Led by ringleader Maniac Neil Smith, who does all instrumentation on the new album, Blood Freak charge into your home like a rabid Leatherface, roaring chainsaw in hand, and they're hellbent on lopping off some body parts while they're around. 2007's Multiplex Massacre is a blood-splattered lesson in both brutality and filth, but the band's appeal is more than just a gimmick—there is genuine talent to back it up.

Multiplex Massacre tells the story of such lovable characters as Turkey Monster, Acid Dropping Satan and Mucous Spewing Lungslasher. If that heartwarming bunch of creatures doesn't sound like a crew you'd like to roll with, then do yourself a favor and stop reading this review. The CD's concept stylistically fits in with the slasher and cheesy horror films of the '70s and '80s—it's equal parts Zombie, Dead Alive and The Toxic Avenger. With lyrics like "Don't forget the Slaughter Special with salted and fried human skin," written by Razorback Records head honcho Billy Nocera, this album feeds the gorehounds' need for twisted humor in their collective diet. On top of that, the artwork—all done in classic comic book style—is completely killer and a real treat for horror fans.

Musically, Multiplex Massacre is much better than your generic goregrind release. "Cleavage Cleaver" opens in quasi-classic deathgrind fashion, building on a sick groove before launching into full-on blasting territory. Moments of intense speed are balanced by slower, thrash-minded headbanging madness. Throughout the album, tasty riffs scatter an otherwise heavy, punching back sound. Maniac Neil proudly proclaims in the liner notes that no drum machines were used in the making of Multiplex Massacre, which means that all of the quickly-kicking double bass you hear was pounded out by the flexible feet of the man himself. A meaty bass line, which plods along in more of a punk groove than a metal one at times, underlies the guitar work and gives it a big, fat set of balls. More standout tracks include "Go for the Grossout," "Don't Metal with Satan" and "Roadkillers," a song which creeps slowly down the doom metal path for a minute and a half before its ADHD drugs wear off.

Regardless of whether grindcore is your cup of tea or not, you have to hand it to Blood Freak (specifically Neil Smith) for pulling off a fun and pulpy bloodbath that can attract the attention of both metal and horror fans alike. Besides, none of the songs on the album go far past the three-minute-mark, so what have you got to lose? If Fulci and Satan are two of your best friends, Multiplex Massacre calls out to you. Don't try to deny it.

Review by Simon Milburn, TheMetalForge.com

Out of the drive-in and into the Cineplex!

Maniac Neil Smith is back, and this time, he’s not alone! Ok, that might not have the same impact had it been said in some kind of darkened theatre by someone like Vincent Price or whatever, but yes, Smith is back and he’s enlisted Razorback Records’ Billy Nocera on Blood Freak’s latest blood soaked slab of metal titled Multiplex Massacre. Multiplex Massacre is the perfectly fitting follow on from 2006’s Live Fast, Die Young And Leave A Flesh-Eating Corpse, and the group’s 2003 debut, Sleaze Merchants, as Blood Freak hone their thrash-cross-Carcass fuelled gore metal skills.

It all begins with the instrumental Theme From Multiplex Massacre that blurs the lines between old school B grade horror music and some kind of early 90s shoot ‘em up computer game theme and ultimately sets the tone nicely for the aural bloodshed to come. Smith’s love of early Carcass and vintage thrash is unashamed with Cleavage Cleaver and Rocktober Blood showing very early on a clever mix of Symphonies Of Sickness era Carcass dual vocals backed by a mix of frantic riffs, laced with tasteful lead work here and there. The thrash fuelled simplicity of Go For the Grossout is priceless and definitely an asset, whilst Body By Death oozes more of that vintage Carcass brilliance.

The key thing with tracks likes If You Have The Guts…He Wants Them!, Lady Lunatic, Aerobicide, Don’t Mess With Satan and Poultry Pervert is that they never overstay their welcome with an average of two and a bit minutes, the riffs are never boring and the variety of tempos that back the guttural vocals all combine nicely from start to end. The thrastastic Thrills, Chills And Blood Spills followed by the doom infested sludge of Roadkillers clock in as the album’s longest tracks before Savage Streets wraps it up via a return to form that fades out via a melodic layer of distorted guitars.

Blood Freak’s Multiplex Massacre doesn’t really venture too far from the track that their first two albums laid out, which is comforting. Smith has once again delivered an entertaining cocktail of gore, thrash and grind in the form of Blood Freak’s newie that is every bit as entertaining as the band’s previous outings.

Review by Mike Lidia, Unholycult.com
ALBUM OF THE WEEK 5-24-07

Before I even put ‘Multiplex Massacre’ into my CD player I knew the music therein to be near perfect. When the first notes spilled into my ears, I was greeted by a sublime combination of Death/Grindcore/Thrash Metal with brooding hints of Doom slathered over a blood drenched retro horror film theme. This unreal musical mutation could only be recorded in the 21st century, for Blood Freak has taken the greatness of Metal music’s past eras, and skillfully folded them into ‘Multiplex Massacre.’

Musically it’s as if Maniac Neil cooked Autopsy, Carcass, Abscess, Metallica, Repulsion, Black Sabbath, and Impetigo in a spoon then injected that concentrated mix into his veins. The result with Blood Freak, as compared to many bands stinking up the scene, is music that has been smartly composed, is precise, devoid of needless technicality, and played with unadulterated passion. Everything is fucking genius. The guitar riffing is fluidly natural and creative. Cool harmony leads are layered over speedy passages giving certain songs a heavy, but non-pussy melodic sound. Tight licks and mind shattering solos rage out of a powerfully downtuned guitar making songs more catchy. Breaks and hooks will turn headbanging listeners into paraplegics… Fuck, the riffing is almost indescribably phenomenal to the point that hearing Maniac Neil’s amazing chops is almost like witnessing a miracle.

The vocals are a roaring series of deliveries. Lyrics are belted through hacking gargles. Meanwhile, deep drowning gurgles have grisly mucus covered spitball ferocity. The bass is a low-end explosion, and the drum play masterfully flows between blast beats, and Thrash driven hypersonic tempos. Most awesome is that the kit isn’t laden with triggers. This gives the drums a dynamically thunderous sound, which is more purely energized than most of what can be heard in today’s pretentious uber brOOOtal Death Metal.

‘Multiplex Massacre’ is made more enjoyable by stalwart production that simultaneously brings forth the clarity of the music while keeping a filthy hacksaw against the skull grit in the mix. The booklet for the CD is adorned with Blood Freak’s original characters like the infamous Turkey Monster, the rest of the artwork is beautifully hand drawn, and the lyrics reflect mostly a 70’s and 80’s obscure horror films theme… Fans, ‘Multiplex Massacre’ is the complete fucking package.

If its possible for a band and label to mirror each other is musical ideology then Blood Freak and Razorback Records are a pristine paradigm. From the music to the lyrics, art, and production, ‘Multiplex Massacre’ is an album that has been created with all the right artistic intentions. Blood Freak is a straightforward bone churning Death/Grindcore/Thrash hybrid band playing expertly and passionately. They are fun, grisly, and terrifically gore. ‘Multiplex Massacre’ is destined to be a classic, and today’s fans have a chance to live in Blood Freaks present-day greatness… BUYING IS MANDATORY!!!!

Review by Shane, Horroryearbook.com

“Nobody wanted to listen when we said this was for real, sold our souls to horror and then sealed the deal. You laughed in our faces and really pissed us off. Now BLOOD FREAK is still killing while you die weak and soft. We melt horror DVD’s into liquid and shoot it into our veins. We are socially retarded and completely insane! In the toxic tomb we all rot away watching horror 24 hours a day. Our drive-in METAL is what its all about. We go for the kill - we go for the grossout!”

That passage from the track “Go for the Grossout’ from BLOOD FREAK’S “Multiplex Massacre” album pretty much sums up this blast of thrashing horror slashing METAL quite nicely. BLOOD FREAK, the duo of Maniac Neil Smith (guitars/bass/drums/vocals) and Billy Nocera (lyrics/concepts) have unleashed yet another mindblowing album right on the heals of the last BLOOD FREAK album “Live Fast, Die Young…”, a record which in turn, quickly followed the last FRIGHTMARE monster “Bringing Back the Bloodshed” (a beyond monumental album of limbthrashing brilliance).

If you happened to have read my reviews of the previously mentioned albums you’ll know my strong feelings of intense worship of said records. ‘multiplex massacre’ looks to be no different. Its amazing the amount of extreme metal bands that populate the underground who offer nothing but boring music. There is alot of talent no doubt, but the craft forged in the 80’s by the early thrash and death metal bands is all but lost on many bands today.

Not any band Neil Smith has fronted though! What can be said that I haven’t said before? The haunted, stinking shrieking corpse of old thrash and long forgotten VHS tape haunts anything this very talented maniac touches and the final result is nothing short of brain melting. If Stevo from IMPETIGO calls you the most talented fella in the undeground you have to take notice! Cheers and horns Neil!

1. The Theme From Multiplex Massacre
2. Cleavage Cleaver
3. Rocktober Blood
4. Go For The Grossout
5. Body By Death
6. If You Have The Guts…He Wants Them!
7. Lady Lunatic
8. Aerobicide
9. Don’t Metal With Satan
10. Poultry Pervert
11. Thrills, Chills, and Blood Spills
12. Roadkillers
13. Savage Streets

“Multiplex Massacre” continues much in the same style as “Live Fast…” but seems to be more condensed/focused a bit. The riffs are NEVER boring. The solos are well placed and emotional slashers, some of them actually sound like bloodrenched screams, other times like an outtake from an old unreleased Judas Priest demo from the late 1970’s. Drumming is total old school…brutal snare punishment the classic way with a great sound. In other words the kit doesn’t sound like a precise typewriter, it sounds like fucking drums in a fucking metal band! The tempos are well balanced and overall this is mid-tempo to blast pretty much the whole way (minus the cool intro/outro, the intro sounds like a Fulci score). And yeah, the blast parts remain focused and precise with the guitars/bass/drums/vocals always equally audible. Neil’s vocals have truly become scary-good. Inhuman noises that will scare and puzzle most unknowing sheep.

Visually, this album is wonderful (although the cover for the previous “Live Fast…” will probably never be topped IMO). This cover is great though, a stark b/w collage of horror weirdos, monsters, acid dropping satan, and even a tit. Ordering this direct from razorbackrecords.com will also get you a cool print of expanded artwork (see pic above).

Billy Nocera penned about half of the lyrics on “Multiplex Massacre,” and they are pure genius! Funny and disturbing at the same time. I intro’d this review with a passage of his…here’s another from the thrasher “Roadkillers.” “nobody gives a fuck so its time to quit, your band is a joke, on your corpses we’ll spit”…”retardification was the first to go, it wasn’t fast, it was painful and slow. next up was ensuckment, they went down hard. mucoule gutted the the singer, a fashion-queen retard!” Those are great lyrics!

I’m telling you right now people, Razorback Records is where Relapse Records was in the early 90’s…releasing a new breed of underground horror via bands that are full of exciting drive and vision with a strong grasp on the past architects of metal and the outsiders of extreme cinema and art in general, and this album is another fine addition to the list of the Razorback attack. Don’t miss it!

Review by Scott Alisoglu, Blabbermouth.net

The Turkey Monster, Dr. Bitch, the Mucous Spewing Lungslasher, Acid Dropping Satan, Lady Lunatic, and Worm Face, these are the characters that live in the world of BLOOD FREAK. "Multiplex Massacre" is the third installment of the BLOOD FREAK story and it is without a doubt Mr. Everything Maniac Neil's shining achievement. With lyrical and conceptual contributions from Razorback's own Billy Nocera, "Multiple Massacre" is every spatter thrashing, horror moving loving fan's bloody wet dream.

Yes, it's a been a little while since we've gotten a proper Razorback release, and what better way to get the ball rolling than with a thrashing beast like "Multiplex Massacre". Whereas the debut album "Sleaze Merchants" and follow-up "Live Fast, Die Young, and Leave a Flesh-Eating Corpse" are definitive Razorback gore thrashers releases in their own right, the Maniac has come into his own on the third long player. Performing a great mix of old school thrash with the requisite CARCASS-isms and more B-movie slashing than you can shake a stick at, this baby rocks like with abandon. Don't let that classic combination of growls and sneering, high-register vocals make you think that "Multiplex Massacre" is some kind of run-of-the-mill goregrind album either. This is filthy, vicious thrash metal with barely a hint of grindcore; a genre that many mistakenly assume defines the Razorback sound. Aside from the evil keyboard intro with a brief sample that is "Theme from Multiplex Massacre", the album consists of song after song of speeding hyper thrash. Whether you choose to delve into the very detailed and exceedingly well written stories or you prefer to revel in the music of every whiplash-inducing tune, "Multiplex Massacre" leaves one with a satisfied smile on the face and a lascivious twinkle in the eye. Only slowing occasionally, such as on the doomy riff that introduces the rip-roaring "Aerobicide", the disc is one wild ride. If you can't get your metallic groove on to catchy little nuggets like "Cleavage Cleaver", then you're beyond help.

If you're a long-time fan of Razorback trauma, then nothing will surprise you on "Multiplex Massacre", with the possible exception of how well Neil has turned vintage thrash and heavy metal into such a putrid milkshake of body parts. Just know that BLOOD FREAK can now stand proud alongside quality acts. Don't forget to clean up the mess when you're done.

"Live Fast, Die Young... And Leave A Flesh-Eating Corpse" CD
Razorback Records 2006
Review by The Braindead Webzine

This is the quintessential Razorback album, the perfect hybrid of all the label's aspirations from old school grind/gore, thrash metal, death metal, doom to exploitation flicks & horror comics! Like the previous Blood Freak cd this album is still very much Grind/Gore/Death Metal at the core, taking a Impetigo meets Carcass/General Surgery meers early Entombed/Grave main direction, except this time a whole lot more ingenious thrash metal arrangements are added to the mix (in the vein of the latest Frightmare album perhaps), complete with wah solos and guitar effect that really bringing out a different, really exciting edge to Blood Freak I think! So the big reveal that Blood Freak is not a real band?! It was a really good prank but honestly anyone who bought that the first album was a long lost album recorded back in the day must be really thick... I however had no idea this was the work of a single person; Color me impressed! Blood Freak definitely sounds full-fledged, even though every instrument is recorded individually by the same person, execution is totally natural, everything flows perfectly and musicianship's exceptional on every aspect, from mindblowing guitar riffing, tight-as-fuck drumming to the blistering roaring and shrieking vocal delivery... I'm not sure what kind of drugs Neil is on to stay that consistently great at churning out excellent riffage in every single band and project he's helming but one sure thing is that I want some too! Song-writing is just excellent, songs are all memorable, catchy, hard-hitting, just cool-as-hell... Blood Freak more than any other death metal bands out there today simply delivers the goods! Always keeping it straightforward, take-no-prisoner, downtuned and thrashing! The styling and musical direction is really steady and strong, this is usually the most positive aspect of one-man bands, you don't have to struggle to mix different people's influences, I'm convinced that's what makes this album such pure, undiluted metal fun! The album still explores a variety of styles, it can be blastbeat grinding, thrashing mid-tempos, go into some d-beat rhythms or have some really cool Autopsy-like doom moments on some tracks like "The Flesh and Blood Show". As usual, tons of exploitation gore and horror movie and trailer samples are worked into the songs to great effect! The booklet is also filled with awesome comic book/vintage poster style artwork, terrific front cover by legendary Ed Repka and really cool inside black & white drawings by Putrid and others... Plus this time a complete lyric sheet!!! Razorback head Billy Nocera is responsible for writing most of them, in a whacky and insane Impetigo-style, meaning plenty of old school horror nostalgia and gore! So that's about it... This album really is the full package!

BLOOD FREAK
"Sleaze Merchants" CD
Razorback Records 2003
Review by The Braindead Webzine

Never heard of gringore pioneers Blood Freaks before? Well me neither... This album is outrageously advertised as being recorded in INSERT HUGE SCEPTIC QUOTEMARKS "1990"... You can even hear bonus tracks from the, erm... "1988 demo"! With a great attention paid to details, these demo tracks are in a totally different style from the rest of the album, they actually sound alot like Rigor Mortis (pre-Immolation) demo recordings! Ha ha! Ok, this really is excellent grind-gore, it's got the bad-ass old school Repulsion vibe alright but it also sounds very much like a mix of modern thrashing grind/gore like Gruesome Stuff Relish and Ghoul... The sound production is strong and heavy but maintaining a raw edge, songs are all little gems, with very basic and straightforward structures but still swarming with maddening grind riffs, alot of thrashing parts, some twisted, screaming guitar solo, and even a bit of groove in the early Blood Duster vein. Vocals are part growls, part shrieks, part gut-wrenching pitch-shifted grunts... Musicanship is suspiciously expert for such an old band... Ok, I'll drop more references like General Surgery, Necrony, Impaled... The album is also packed with gore imagery of course... Cheesy & creepy old horror movie trailers and samples served as interludes between songs, in good old Impetigo fashion. And an absolutely amazing cover artwork by Chas Balun, which is a composition made of stills from Dawn of the Dead, Zombi 2, Cannibal Holocaust, Blood Feast & Maniac... This is assuredly quality grind/gore/thrash, with a perfect cheesy horror wrapping... a quintessential Razorback band and a must-have record for anyone even remotely interested in grind & horror!
